The Community Wishbook

We are fortunate to have a few excellent resources in the Rochester area for volunteer and donation opportunities. The first in this series of blog posts introduces the Community Wishbook - “Rochester’s Charity Giving Guide.”

The Community Wishbook has lists of hundreds of local organizations with their needs for donations and volunteers. You can search by organization, items to be donated, or types of volunteer tasks.

I first heard about the Community Wishbook many years ago, as a new Junior League of Rochester member. The JLR produced the Community Wishbook in its printed form for more than a decade, and for a few years in collaboration with the Greater Rochester Section of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW). Nona and Jim Maurer revived the Community Wishbook in 1999 and established Helping Community Charities, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, for the specific purpose of producing the Wishbook.

The Community Wishbook is updated regularly, easy to navigate, and includes both large and small nonprofits in the listings. Thank you to the Maurers for working hard to provide this wonderful resource for our community!
