Have you heard of the National Human Resources Association (NHRA)? It’s not your typical nonprofit! The NHRA mission is to provide an active forum for the exchange of information and ideas related to Human Resources. We are focused on advancing the development and leadership of HR professionals, and we do this by:
- Creating a welcoming environment where you can easily connect with other HR professionals
- Offering diverse and relevant professional development offerings with pre-approved HRCI credits that help you excel in your field
- Providing opportunities for members to grow and develop as they lead through involvement in our community outreach efforts, mentoring initiative, service on the Board of Directors or event-based volunteering.
For someone like me, with a background in human resources, it is a particularly interesting area as I often don’t find a volunteer need for my skill set. With the NHRA I am able to utilize my knowledge of Human Resources in a volunteer capacity by serving on the board for the Rochester affiliate of the NHRA as well as hold the position of Co-Director of Marketing. Now in my 2nd year operating in the Co-Director of Marketing capacity, I have had the pleasure of being able to exercise existing and acquire new marketing skills while volunteering for an organization that coincides with my career. There are also opportunities to be active in our affiliate’s mentoring program where I have personally served as a mentor for the last 2 years.
As part of our mission, we give back to organizations in our community each year by hosting an annual Charity Auction in November. I’m thrilled that our local charity this year is Dress for Success Rochester! We are excited to be working with Dress for Success Rochester to raise funds to support their Steps to Success Career Development and Training Program which helps women transition into employment and lays the foundation for future success.
Dress for Success Rochester is a great nonprofit for our affiliate to support because their career and education services truly connect to the mission of the National HR Association. On behalf of the NHRA Board of Directors, I invite you to join us in supporting Dress for Success at our 21st annual Charity Auction! This event is not just for HR folks, it is open to the public! The night will be filled with networking, hors d’oeuvres, a pasta station, and silent and live auctions with tons of fabulous items up for grabs just in time for the holidays. There is truly something for everyone, and a prime networking opportunity if you haven’t already figured that out!
